Bay Executive Motel

It was a short walk to the shops, and access to the Clyde St ATM is northbound off the highway. The location was pretty good. The room wasn't bad, but nowhere near Executive standard. It gave me the impression they were trying to cut costs as much as possible. One light didn't work, and I had to plug in the TV myself. The bathroom had a motion sensor light, which is unfortunate if you're on the toilet for a while in the dark.

I didn't see or catch any bugs, so I know the motel may say I have no concrete proof. But I had more than 20 unbelievably itchy, angry-looking bites, and two medical professionals said they were bedbug bites. Staying here is at your own risk. We did a South Coast round trip and spent one night at Bay Executive Motel. My skin was fine when I went to bed. In the morning I saw a few spots on my neck and left arm, but didn't think much of them. As we drove on, they became bigger, redder and itchier, and I found more on my back and right hand. A chemist said they were bedbug bites and urged me to see a doctor straight away, thinking I might need antibiotics. I couldn't find a doctor that day, so we abandoned the rest of the trip and rushed back to Sydney. The doctor confirmed they were bedbug bites and was adamant they happened during the night I stayed at Bay Executive Motel. I've tried contacting the motel multiple times and got no response. They're also ignoring multiple contacts from NSW Fair Trading.

The location is great and central, and the staff were friendly. The room was reasonably clean, but it lacked a few useful things. In a beach town, somewhere to hang wet towels and swimmers would help. There was no exhaust fan in our bathroom, and without a flyscreen on the window, mozzies came in when we opened it.

The new hosts were friendly and helpful, and it was their first week taking over the business. They're undertaking a full renovation. The rooms were clean and fresh, with steady hot water in the shower. It's in a good, quiet spot across from the playground, public BBQs and boat ramps.
