George Kerferd Hotel

Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, the cocktails were good, and our waiter was so lovely. Breakfast food was tasty too, and the woman serving us was lovely to chat with, though neither my friend nor I could drink the coffee. The restaurant closes by 8, so bring late night food, snacks or drinks if you like eating after 6. The room was tiny and felt more like aged care than a resort. The bed on wheels was awful and crunchy, with an uncovered doona and public hospital sheets and pillows. I barely slept, even with Netflix on all night. The shower's hot water tap was loose, the water kept changing from hot to cold, and pressure was very low. One packet of biscoff biscuits was the only good thing in the room. It was okay overall, but I wouldn't stay again.

It's a good value place with gorgeous grounds, close to town. Our bedroom was a decent size, with a comfortable mattress, tv, kettle, aircon and a lovely outlook. The bathroom layout was unusual, with the shower separate from the toilet and basin. It was very clean, though the room carpet was a bit dusty and the entrance foyer carpet looked very tired.

The staff were pleasant and accommodating, but they were rostered only for part of the day, leaving the place unstaffed after 2:30pm. It felt isolated and run down, and the pool looked as though it hadn't been attended to in a long time. The owner should review the marketing material because the pictures don't match the place. If you have to stay here, book the cheapest room.

My children and grandchild were very disappointed. We chose Grandoak resort in summer for its pool and spa, but the pool was filthy, murky, damaged and unhygienic, with creatures swimming in it, so we couldn't use it. The person checking us in said it was salt water and usable, apparently thinking the murk was because of the salt water. The rooms were average to poor, and the website didn't reflect the accommodation's actual condition. The restaurant was closed over Valentine’s weekend, and nobody emailed or called after booking to tell us either it or the pool would be unavailable. At checkout, I spoke to the manger, who denied being the manager and seemed not to care that advertised facilities weren't usable. She claimed they had called some guests, which wasn't true. This was very unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend Grandoak resort. Definitely don't book here.
