The surroundings are beautiful, and the location made things easy. Studio 23 was comfortable too, though it could use a few more comforts. The bed was good, but the pillows need replacing. We always bring our own anyway. After a long day of walking, I really missed having a couple of comfy chairs to relax in. 3.5 stars, solid comfort.

For the price, being so close to Falls Creek is worth 5 stars on its own. I've stayed here every year for the past 4 years, and it's always been comfortable and convenient. The tavern being closed was a shame, though. The nearest restaurants meant driving to Falls Creek or Mt Beauty.
Lake Guy is lovely for a walk, though the park BBQs could use a proper clean. The cottage was quiet and remote, which suited us, and I never felt unsafe. The door locked, and we had no trouble. Getting to Mt Beauty takes about 20 minutes along windy roads, so it helps to plan ahead. My friend and I stayed in 13A, the 3 star cottage, for two nights in January 2016. It was clean and well maintained, and decent for the price, though neither modern nor updated. The beds were comfortable, and there were books and games. Tissues in the bedrooms and a bedside reading light in the second bedroom would have lifted the rating to 5 stars for the price and location. We called on arrival to get directions to the cabin. The key was in the door, and we left it in the box when we checked out, so we didn't otherwise deal with staff. It's a beautiful, secluded spot, and I'd stay again.
Some cabins are more modern than others, but they're all self-contained and make a handy base for skiing or exploring the high country. It's a darling village in stunning surroundings. Pack a picnic and visit the gardens at the south end. There are facilities there, and if you wander farther up the track, you can find a quiet spot by one of the creeks.
The gardens aren't looked after as well as they used to be, and I'm pretty disappointed that AGL removed access to the dam wall. You can no longer walk all the way around the lake because of that. Still, it's an incredible place and worth a visit.
