Asses Ears Wilderness Lodge

If you want to be surrounded by nature, with kangaroos nearby, little creatures around, quiet nights and a sky full of stars, this is the place. Steve also has good stories. The cabins suit the wilderness setting, but comparing them with hotel rooms misses the point. They’re for being close to nature and feeling like you’re in the bush, with comfort and luxury at a jungle standard. If you want hotel-level cleanliness and luxury by ordinary human standards, or prefer to avoid the wilderness, you’d be better off booking another hotel.

Steve’s hospitality made the stay. He’s a solid top bloke, easy to get along with and says things straight. I also loved seeing Magoo messing around with her mum, along with Steve’s kids and the three dogs. Best overnight stay.

Breakfast wasn’t included, and I wouldn’t stay there again. The bedrooms and shared area were kind of okay, but the outdoor kitchen was really dirty and the toilets hadn’t been cleaned. We could hear a mouse running around our room at night.

We’ve been twice and plan to return. The lodge is pretty spartan, though the stay itself is good, with wild kangaroos and amazing starry skies. The bar and rec room are nice too.
