Gabba Central Apartments

The room was lovely and clean, and housekeeping did a great job. My mother and I spent three weeks here while she had treatment at Mater Hospital, so the location was fantastic for us. I can’t say enough about the staff. They were kind and helpful, and made a very stressful time much easier.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the three-bedroom apartment was roomy and in a really convenient spot, with shops and cafes just downstairs. We enjoyed the stay, but the room’s condition was disappointing in places. The balcony floor was almost black with dirt, the air con was very noisy, and the kitchen sink tap was broken. The bathtub was peeling, and some cups and glasses hadn’t been washed properly.

The teenagers in our group were left with nowhere to go and had to sleep on the streets. We’d booked accommodation for them, and management knew their ages when they accepted the booking, but then refused to let them stay when they arrived. There was no warning about the change, and staff offered no help finding somewhere safe or sorting out the situation. They also refused a refund, keeping our money while providing nothing. This was appalling and showed no regard for young people’s safety. Gabba Central was disorganized and unhelpful throughout. Avoid it.

There are shops around the property and food nearby, and the location is convenient. That was the main draw. My room on the third floor was a cramped shoebox, with an ageing interior, a tiny TV, and an old split-system air con. The bathroom was cramped too, and both the shower and sink need updating. Noise from the street and other rooms kept me from getting decent sleep. Reception was often unattended while I was there, though the staff I met were polite and friendly. I saw no housekeeping at all. I’d spend my money somewhere nicer unless the location is what you want.
