Master Suite With Private Entrance

The location was handy for work, with a short drive to the motorways, shops and some cafes. Alan and Desney are lovely, friendly people, and I don’t mean this review to cause a scene. But I expected more from a “Deluxe Queen Room” on a four-night stay in Feb 2025. A lot of work seems needed on cleanliness and upkeep. Dust was on most surfaces, there were cobwebs in corners, and the carpets were overdue for a clean. The soap dish and shower door were broken, and I had to buy spray for ants and cockroaches. The tiny fridge still worked, but its door handle was broken. Gaps in the ceiling boards and a huge gap above one door were unsettling, especially for a woman travelling alone. Street parking was fine, but the steps up to the house are steep. On my first day Desney suggested I drive around the back and down a VERY steep driveway to unload, which helped, but reversing back up took some skill. The kitchen is shared with longer term tenants, and cooking when I wanted to became a non-event, so I relied on takeaways or eating out. If you need outside lights on for the steep stairs, tell Alan or Desney. They were on when I came back the last night, but the area around the corner of the house and my entrance was pitch black. It could be a serious safety issue if someone tripped. I was lucky to have my phone flashlight. The deluxe room pictures showed a desk, but it seems to have been replaced with a single bed, making laptop work awkward. The bed was too soft for me, though I know a firm bed is just personal preference. Ear plugs would help block TV sounds and coughing from other tenants. The longer term guests seem to like it, so I guess different strokes for different folks. I hope Alan and Desney take this as intended. Thank you.

I’m not happy and would like a refund. My only requirement was a private bathroom, but everything was shared. The room looked like it hadn’t had a duster or vacuum in a long time. In the communal bathroom, only the bath looked clean. The rest was grungy, with old used soap in the dishes and dirty bath and basin mats on the floor. I sanitised the toilet seat every time before using it. The overflowing bin and anti-fungal powder containers, including some in the basin drawers, did nothing to reassure me about the hygiene. The advert didn’t mention the many very steep steps from the street, or the steep driveway at the back if you need to bring luggage down. The other lodgers were okay, apart from a bitey dog that barked viciously whenever it came in the front door, right by our window, even in the middle of the night. There were long black hairs in the bed, though we’re grey and clipped short, and old blood drops on the duvet cover. All in all, not impressed.

The room was super large, with shared access to the bathroom, laundry, kitchen and lounge. It really felt like a home away from home. I needed somewhere to stay for 6 days, and this was just what I needed. Both entrances were daunting with luggage, especially for someone my age, but the host quickly arranged to have my items delivered to my room. Access was no problem after that.

It was share house accommodation, so you get what you pay for. The bed was firm, the room clean, and nothing special. One of the “permies” greeted us and showed us the room and bathroom. Not sure what breakfast was meant to be, but we managed to get a cup of coffee and tea.
