Great Southern Hotel Brisbane

We got the renovated room we requested. It was big, clean and had new carpets, and the bathroom looked neat. But the bed felt really old and was extremely uncomfortable to sleep in. Between the room and carpark costs, we thought we'd save a bit, but ended up with two poor nights of sleep.

The location was spot on, right opposite the star casino and within walking distance of queen st mall. The bed was very comfortable, though the room was just ok and would improve a lot with an update and paint job. Service was ok too. We asked for fresh towels but got bath mats because they said they'd run out. A hotel should have enough linen for guests. Towels did arrive later that day. Also, those tiny milk cups should be replaced with small long-life milk cartons, which would be much more useful.

We stayed a couple of nights with two kids and had a much better room this time, renovated, unlike the outdated room with three single beds from three years ago. There were two single beds and one large double, and we had no complaints. The display control panel for heating and cooling was great, and the view included the Star and Brisbane river. We left our luggage for a few hours after checkout free of charge. We hadn't known about the building work. About half the rooms on our floor were being renovated, but the drilling lasted only about five minutes between 9 and 9.30am and didn't bother us. There was no noise at night, and the location is great, a 10-15-minute walk to the streets beach. The wifi was poor: our phones couldn't use it, though I managed some work on my laptop.

My sister and her son stayed while visiting from St George C.Q. The rooms were clean and well maintained, prices were very reasonable, and the staff were really helpful. The location is good too. The carpark is a bit tight, but it was a great place to stay. Thank you!
