Julians Apartments

Julians Apartments is a mixed bag for me. The location is fantastic, with the beach across the road and a lovely bush walk nearby. Our apartment, number 6 on the end, had a Bali-inspired feel, a pretty outdoor garden, and was quiet and restful. Parking was excellent and secure. Inside, though, there was a clear mould smell. It seemed like it could be a leak in the building, and we needed the air conditioning running 24/7 and scented candles to hide it. The mould smell also made the unit feel like it could trigger allergies, and I’m concerned it may be a health hazard. I probably wouldn’t return. There were other problems too: the lower kitchen drawer had pans with old oil and butter still on them, and a broken rail in the bottom of the fridge meant bottles had to lie flat, so we had to drink our wine at once. There were no face cloths, and only one towel per person, two in total. The washing machine was so slow even on fast wash that we were often reusing towels across three washes. We stayed five nights and didn’t interact with staff at all, not even a hello. A sheet of “DON’TS with Consequences” rules was there to welcome us.

The location was great, close to everything, and we stayed four nights. But the rooms were below average at best. The dishes were dirty, and for most of our stay the room smelled of cleaning products as well as mould. The shower pressure was extremely weak, the temperature couldn’t be adjusted, and the mattress was very soft. It just didn’t feel like good value for money.

I’m still dreaming about this place more than a month later, and I meant to write sooner. It felt like a heavenly jungle paradise across the road from the beach. I used to live in Byron and now live in Melbourne, and this stay was perfect. The room was spacious, open, light, quiet, clean, and so relaxing. I could live here! I can’t remember our lovely host’s name, but he was fantastic. Will stay again. 💚🌴🌿🌞

We loved being just beyond the busy part of town, within walking distance of the magic Pass and Wategos. Our apartment was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We’d planned to stay a couple of days, but had to leave early for personal reasons. The owners were so kind and lovely to refund us for one night. We’d happily recommend this place and hope to return soon!
