Oaks Cable Beach Resort

The pool barbecues were excellent, clean, and had a sink and taps for washing up. The restaurant food was surprisingly good, and the rooms were nice, with air conditioning in each. Daily room cleaning was good too. We visited in high season for a family holiday, and our stay was good overall for Broome, with a couple of hiccups. The restaurant and bar hours weren't very accommodating, and there was no proper coffee. The pools were nice, but the kids found them a bit boring: no jumping or diving, and no slides or similar features. Our bathroom was a bit grimy and needs an overhaul, though it was okay. The cafe down the road is nice and an easy walk. Spinifex is nice for a drink, but the food is terrible.

The one-bedroom apartment was so spacious I didn't use all of it. It had a dining table and chairs, a lounge, washer and dryer, dishwasher, balcony with a couple of lounge chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen for a longer stay. Parking was easy, with plenty of unassigned spaces right outside. I was on the first floor and had a great pool view, and the sunrise was beautiful. Key cards are needed for the rooms and pool area, which adds a little extra security. The resort is about a five-minute walk from Spinifex Brewery and 15 minutes from Cable Beach. I was in Broome for work during peak season, when there was no accommodation left in town, so I was put up at Oaks in Cable Beach, a 10-minute drive away. It was amazing and felt more like a holiday than a work trip. The resort is well set up, with units, one-bedroom apartments and stand-alone villas, plus an on-site restaurant and bar, buffet breakfast and a couple of pools in the middle of the complex. Breakfast was $25, reasonably priced, with lots of options, and very tasty. I got the one-bedroom apartment. Highly recommended for a Cable Beach stay.

The room was clean, spacious and relaxing, and the pool area was lovely. Staff were pleasant too. There's a brewery and cafe nearby if you want a change from eating at the resort, and a great general store down by the beach with a range of food. It's on the bus route, and Cable Beach is an easy 10-15 minute walk away.

The room smelled musty and very damp, and felt dated. I had requested twin beds and one was prepared, but at bedtime I found water pooled on the bedside table near the lamp, apparently from a leaking air conditioner. One bed had a yellow patch on the sheets and was very wet, while the other was damp too. Staff moved me right away, though they could only offer a double bed. I hope they fix the problem before anyone else stays in that room, and renovate it by replacing the mattresses and cleaning mould and dampness from the floor and walls.
