Mantra Trilogy

The best part is the location, right by the harbour and plenty of bars and restaurants. We mainly used the hotel as a base for day trips, so we didn’t spend much time there. It’s reasonably priced and okay if you want a no-frills place to come back to between outings, but it’s listed as four star and doesn’t meet that standard for me. We stayed three nights and the rooms are cleaned every three days, so there were no fresh towels or tea and coffee refills. Fine if you’re happy to ask. The room was small, needed paint, and had random scratches and marks, plus a mirror hanging slightly off the wall. The balcony was a nice extra. The air con barely worked, only a little cooler than a normal fan. It’s affordable, but expect compromises.

The view across Trinity Bay was lovely, and our room had a small balcony and was clean when we arrived. Reception and hallways were tidy, the gardens were lovely, and the reception staff were friendly. But during our seven nights, the room was never cleaned. We had to ask twice for fresh towels and twice for toilet rolls. I’ve never stayed in a hotel that didn’t clean the room at least every other day. The bathroom grout had long-standing mould, and its single small towel rack wasn’t enough to dry two bath towels each day. There were two couches but no small desk or table for writing or having tea. The pool was the main reason we chose the hotel, and its condition was most concerning. Brown or black grime coated the edges above the waterline. Tiles were missing in many places, where thick, shiny black mould covered the concrete or grout underneath, which seemed to be eroding. Gravel, apparently pebblecrete, had also come loose from parts of the pool floor. It looked like the pool hadn’t had a weekly vacuum and scrub for quite some time, and nothing had been done to repair the missing tiles or damaged pebblecrete.

We’d read some negative reviews and were a little concerned, but our stay at Mantra Trilogy Cairns was much better than expected. The service was great, I think it was luke who checked us in, and he was GREAT. The other staff were helpful and friendly too. Our room was clean, tidy and comfortable. We’ll definitely book again. The location on the Esplanade is hard to beat, with nearly everything in Cairns City within easy walking distance. There’s also free parking right by the restaurants, which made meals out convenient. For the price, the value is fantastic, as long as you know this isn’t a five-star luxury hotel. A few things could use attention. The bathroom was tired, paint was coming off the roof, and our shower glass needed replacing. The gym is small and basic, and could be better with some free weights. Still, it’s clean accommodation in a perfect spot, with good service at a brilliant price. Highly recommended if location and value matter to you.

I stayed here recently for work in a very clean, well kept one bedroom oceanview appartment. It was quiet, with great views and a fantastic location. The pool area was excellent and easy to get to, and reception staff were consistently friendly and helpful. I was in tower 2, which had a separate door to the Esplanade, so it was easy to come and go without going through reception. I’ll definitely stay here again when I’m in Cairns.
