Getting into the room was a hassle. The foyer was locked when I arrived at 3:30 on a Thursday, and after waiting and calling several times, someone finally came down with the key. The room was dirty. There were dead geckos and someone else’s pubes in the bathroom. The sheets had QLD Health labels, clearly from the hospital down the road. It felt close to a prison, with a barbed wire fence at the entrance and degenerates around. The hotel itself wasn’t much better. Spend your money elsewhere.

There was a strong urine smell outside the room, and inside, the floors had white stains or something on them. The bed sheets weren’t clean either, and the only blanket in the drawer was marked and stained. I left and found another hotel.

I spotted what Google says is a bed bug on the bed, and now I’m worried about bringing our things on the plane or home. Before that, I’d started to think the place might not be so horrible after all. The manager came straight out when I called him after my child and I were abused, threatened, and chased up the stairs within five minutes of arriving. The rest of the stay was fairly calm. The first night, though, we couldn’t sleep until the early hours because the gate kept malfunctioning, which I guess they can’t help. There was no bathroom fan, which I found odd, and no blankets on the bed. I’ve learned that’s normal here, but the blanket in the drawer was dirty. Apparently the hotel is used for housing commission and people visiting the hospital, and you can tell.

The manager and staff were friendly. For a one night stop after a late flight, it was okay, though I would’ve felt safer with a chain lock on the ground floor room.
