We chose a top-floor room at the rear facing the ocean, away from busy Sheridan Street, and had a great balcony. The apartments are spacious and well equipped, with laundry facilities, at a price similar to an upmarket motel. The central location is handy for restaurants and cafes, with the Dunwoody Hotel opposite. There are a few drawbacks: being close to the airport means noisy aircraft overhead, and without insect screens on any windows or doors, you're limited to fans or air conditioning. The shower is over a bath, which is slippery to climb in and out of; a rubber mat would help. Still, it's great value for money and I'd recommend it.

We've used Tropic Towers for work stays, and the staff are great. The rooms have what you need for a night or longer, and there's plenty of parking for staff vehicles. Being able to cook and do laundry in the apartment is a must when our staff are away, and they've got both here. I'd definitely say give it a try, it's worth the stay.

A lovely way to kick off our Cairns trip. The reception team were warm and polite, and the place was spotless, tidy, and had everything we needed. Absolutely amazing accommodation.

The rooms at Tropic Towers are roomy and the location is great, but some basic things let it down. The towels had stains and the kitchen dishes weren’t properly clean. I also couldn’t switch off the air conditioning because its remote didn’t work. I reported it to reception, but it stayed that way for five days. The room was comfortable, though the cleaning and maintenance need attention.

The apartments are spacious and the location is convenient, but our check-in turned into a miserable mess. On our July family trip, we stayed one night, left for an overnight boat tour to the Great Barrier Reef, then came back to Cairns for two more nights. When we returned, the receptionist couldn’t find our booking and spoke to us rudely. It was before 5 PM, but the reception booth looked closed. An older blond woman came out after we knocked and seemed irritated. We had arrived fairly close to five, so I understood that part, but she pointed at a sign above the booth and asked if we couldn’t read. It said the booth was for tour bookings, so we apologized and tried to check ourselves in. Then she said the sign was old and she was actually the receptionist. I couldn’t understand why she was giving us such a hard time when we were just trying to check in. If reception was closed, she could have simply told us. For about an hour, until roughly 6 PM, my family tried to show her we had a reservation. She kept asking when we’d booked, as if it might have been only a few hours earlier. We said it had been months before. She also asked if we’d booked through Airbnb, but we’d used Expedia and told her that. By then we’d nearly given up and thought we might have been scammed and had nowhere to sleep. Eventually she checked again. I never got a clear explanation for why she thought there was no booking, though she said she thought we’d checked out during our first night for these extra nights, even though the stays weren’t back to back. Because of that, there wasn’t availability for the same apartment both nights, so we had to move between two and pack up twice. We got a couple of little snack boxes for all the trouble 🙃 Maybe we caught the receptionist on a bad day and other families have a good stay here. We didn’t. Save yourself the hassle and stay in an actual hotel.
