Villa Shangri-La

We rented two units for ten people, and after a few days both smelled terrible. The windows had been screwed shut, so we couldn’t even air the rooms out. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the fans did nothing. There was no microwave, which was a big downside, and the sink in our room kept leaking no matter what we tried. The staff weren’t very friendly compared with the rest of Cairns. They got quite upset when we came back at 2 AM making a lot of noise, which was admittedly our fault, so keep that in mind if you stay here. I’d assumed the complaints in the review from two years ago would have been fixed by now, but they were all true. Wouldn’t recommend it at all.

The apartment was dirty, with cockroaches everywhere and bugs coming up through the drain. There was a filthy scourer for washing dishes, hardly any dishes or cooking equipment, and just a bar fridge and a very old stove. The layout was poor too. When we arrived, the door was being replaced after it had been kicked in. There were no power points. On the first night, banging, people screaming and flashlights through my window kept going for hours around midnight.

The room looked very different from the online photos, and it was far too cramped for four people. We couldn't all sit down together for dinner. Only two of us could get a barely warm shower, so the other two had to wait until the next day. There were dead cockroaches throughout the place, hardly any power points, and the tap dripped the whole time.

The rooms are basic, but the manager is number one. She works incredibly hard, day and night, and never seems to rest. Thank you so much, TINA.
