White Rock Leisure Park

24/1/24 My husband and I are very concerned for our daughter’s safety. She has schizophrenia, is under mental health and NDIS care, and receives a disability pension. I visit her occasionally. She has rented a cabin at White Rock leisure Park on Skull Rd. for over two years, and the conditions are appalling. The roof leaks where she sleeps, with water running down the power point, and the flooring is rotting. The air conditioning hasn’t been fixed, the kitchen sink needs a hot water tap, and the cold water tap needs repair. My daughter has repeatedly told the manager, who said he would deal with it, but nothing has been done. She pays $200 a week from her pension. When she moved in, there was no fridge, oven or electric jug, so my husband and I had to buy those for her. Accommodation in Cairns is limited, so she has to remain there despite these conditions. Please do something. If anything happens to our daughter, we will take action. Sincerely, Kate Higgins

The pool was clean and nice, and we had a pleasant stay overall for under $80 a night for three people in a family cabin. But one side had no working air conditioning. The woman at the desk called it new, though it looked quite old, so we had to leave the adjoining door open and rely on the other unit to cool both rooms. It didn’t work well, especially in the heat over Christmas. The bathrooms and laundry could use a cleanup, and the place would look much nicer if some resident sites were tidied up, with old buses, worn caravans and rusting cars around.

For a cheap room, it still wasn’t worth the money. The staff were unbelievably rude, and someone banged on the doors at all hours of the morning. The rooms smelled awful, and the mattress felt like a rock. The TV was so small we couldn’t see it, and it was angled down so badly that we had to stand up to see the picture.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay here. The manager is rude and, in my view, underqualified. The amenities are never properly cleaned, and there’s never any toilet paper in the toilets. They also don’t repair people’s vans or cabins when needed. The managers are currently on a breach, which they’ve broken, and they’ve been given another breach. Then they chose to take holidays instead of complying. They’re very unreliable. If I could give no stars, I would.
