YHA Cairns Central

The location was just right for relaxing and exploring, and the facilities were better than we expected. Our room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile, and we really felt looked after during our lovely holiday stay. We’d happily come back.

The receptionist was really kind and helped get the cockroach out of my room. I did ask to move, but there weren’t any other rooms free. I stayed in four Cairns hostels, and this one was a good mix of price, location, and cleanliness. Still, there was a cockroach in my room.

I could sort out all my activities at the hostel, which made everything easy, and shops right across the road were handy for picking up food. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the seafront and lagoon. I had a great week here. The all-female room for eight was lovely, and the kitchen and toilets were all good and clean. The only possible drawbacks were no curtains around the beds and no plug near some beds. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The location was amazing, and the pool was nice. Bathrooms were roomy and clean, and I never had to wait. The staff were fab, too. My room was tiny and pretty basic, just a bed, towel, and air con unit, as advertised. It smelled a bit damp, and there was dirt around the windows. The on-site parking felt secure, but I’d book ahead to make sure you get a spot.
