Caloundra Backpackers - Hostel

The kitchen was the main problem: there were lots of flies, and the table was dirty. The app for unlocking your room didn't work reliably, the bathroom light timer shut off during a shower, and the vending machine only took cash, so I couldn't use it. There were some good points too. The beach is about a 7-minute walk away, and Kmart, Coles, and a nearby Woolworths are close. I had my own cabinet in the room, and the air conditioning was enough even on hot days without making the room too cold at night. Washers and dryers cost about $6 each and are paid for by phone. There is roadside parking in front of the hostel, though there isn't always enough space.

The kitchen was messy, and someone took my labelled food and ate it right in front of me. The bedding smelled as if it hadn't been washed. There was a very cute dog, but the place felt like a group of friends living there. That's fine, except they stared at us whenever we weren't in our beds. They spoke about us in French, which I understood because I'm French.

Briann does a great job managing the place, and there was plenty of help with finding work. The staff were helpful, the facilities were clean, and the atmosphere was good. One of the best backpacker hostels I've stayed in.

A really cute hostel, with such friendly service. It felt worth the price, as long as you remember it's still a hostel and don't expect anything too fancy.
