Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel

The location is great, but the food and bistro are a letdown. Plenty of dishes have little flavour, and even fish and chips can arrive overcooked, with dry fish and soggy chips. I’d rather spend my money at smaller places that put out better food for better value, even without a head chef. Here, the prices feel like they go toward staffing and the premises more than what’s on the plate. The head chef also doesn’t seem receptive to complaints or feedback.

The bistro used to be good when we’d visited before, but on Saturday 31/1 several meals were crossed off the menu, and one more wasn’t available when I tried to order. I switched to chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, only to find they had none. Really, mushroom sauce should be a staple and it can’t be that hard to make. A lovely little lady offered me something better than the three sauces on the list, so four stars for her. You’re the only pub in Ceduna, so get better people and lift your game!

After a very long day driving from Norseman to Ceduna on our return from WA, I rang reception to say we’d be late. The woman was understanding and respectful when I explained our plans had been delayed. She arranged for us to get into our rooms after hours, which was a huge help with safety and fatigue in mind. We were glad to reach them, and breakfast the next morning was delicious. I hadn’t known about secure parking when we stopped, but our car left out front was untouched. The location was lovely for a morning stroll before another day of driving home.

A lovely pub with friendly staff, good amenities and excellent service. The lamb rack I ordered was almost inedible, mostly fat and bone with just a few tough pieces of meat. The seafood dishes are worth trying, and the buffet bar had generous serves of vegetables and salad. Despite the lamb, I liked the bistro.
