The Rix Hotel Motel

We arrived without a booking, but the young girl, Ted, found us a table. The steak was cooked beautifully, and my friends' pork, salmon and linguini dishes were all complaint-free. The food was 5/5, and service was fast and awesome. Our waitress Ted was super friendly and chatted with us about the business, which made the night even better. All the staff were friendly. It was a bit loud on a busy Saturday night, but we'll be back. Thanks to the team for such a lovely night and great service.

I went for the $35 rump because most of the meat cuts were very pricey. The steak was great and cooked perfectly medium rare, though the sides and chilli sauce were underwhelming. The Tassie salmon had good flavour but was overcooked. My friend's cocktail didn't taste of booze, while my mocktail was delicious. Our glasses were whisked away before we had finished too, and we had to ask the waitress to bring them back, though it wasn't a major issue. The restaurant has a great look and vibe, with tasteful decor and good ambience. The bathrooms could do with an update.

After a five-hour drive, I was disappointed to be turned away from dinner. It seemed busy, but I could see empty tables, and I thought they'd want a paying guest staying in one of their rooms to eat there. Nobody asked if I was staying, so they assumed I was just walking in off the street. I couldn't try their award-winning service, and when I tried again the next night, they weren't open for dinner on Sunday. I never went back to that area. Check-in wasn't great either. I came in through the rear, saw only pokie machines and had no idea where to go. There were noisy guests beside my room even though it seemed nobody else was staying. I don't understand why they weren't put in a room further away instead of putting us all together.

A hidden gem! The bar and restaurant service was fantastic, and the food was great. The desserts are a must-have. Five stars to the chef!
