The photos don’t show how lovely the underground stay is. It was exactly what the kids wanted, and it didn’t cost much more than two hotel rooms with shared amenities. Cooking is outside at ground level, but we were only there for one night and ate out. It’s in a quiet, safe part of town, with sunrise views and amazing sky in every direction. It’s just 5 min from town, so very close, though it was a bit annoying that we couldn’t walk to dinner.

The apartment was really comfortable and had plenty of room, with two bedrooms tucked underground. The host was lovely, and they’d left some simple breakfast food for us.

The kids claimed the bar area and had us drinking five coffees in half an hour, so the parents were buzzing by the end. The place was so dark that we woke up thinking it was 4 or 5am, only to find it was already 9. If you like proper darkness, this is the spot. Even with 43-degree heat outside, it stayed around the mid-20s inside. The underground house exceeded my expectations, and being below ground made it cooler than other places I’ve seen that sit at ground level. The beds were very comfortable too. Shona and Trevor made us feel welcome from the start. Shona was waiting outside when we arrived, and Trevor helped with the camper and gave the kids some rocks to noodle for opals. We had a great time and are recommending it to friends.

The owners, Trevor and his lovely wife, made us feel welcome right away and stayed engaged and helpful throughout our three-day holiday. They checked on us and shared some lovely tips for the area. The property was clean and well looked after, and it really felt like home. We wanted to try underground living on our first visit to town, and this was a great place for it. The views from above the underground property were wonderful at sunrise and sunset, and my husband got some great nature photos. The kids were thrilled by the underground experience, and having WiFi made it even better. I’m particular about cleanliness and wanted somewhere I could do a bit of cooking, and both were sorted. We made lovely memories here and hope to come back next year.

Trevor and Shona were lovely hosts and did everything they could for us. We stayed from 17 to 20 June 2023, and the underground apartment stayed very warm even with temperatures close to zero outside. It was the best underground living experience we’ve had. There’s an upstairs BBQ and dining area, plus an outdoor space with a fireplace and table and chairs, though we didn’t use that one because it was too cold. We hope to return one day.
