After three cities and three planes with a big family pleasure trip, I needed to switch off. Cloud 9 gave me that space, and having no connection was divine. The clean air, glorious trees and views up the Daintree River helped me feel restored. We had simple, lovely meals and found some much-needed calm. Gerald was a warm, funny host, full of stories and cheeky wit. He took me out to see how the landscape had changed after the major flood just before Christmas, including a shifted and lost tree. I also got to watch him turn a Marble wood branch into a little fluted vase, which he kindly gave me. Seeing it take shape was a joy. The retreat and his home, high among the trees in a glorious pentagon shape, are clearly built with skill and love for this ancient forest. I had told Gerald I wanted to forget an anniversary date, and he promised The Daintree would work its magic. I never thought of the day once. Cloud 9 was a peaceful place to breathe, heal and settle. Thank you, Gerald, for your kindness and care. I’d recommend a stay to recharge and take in his vision.
