Eleven

We booked a modern, nicely done room for three nights for two people. It was on the small side, but I liked it. The key arrangements were frustrating. I spent ten minutes looking around for reception, then called and found out the key was about 2 km away. I’d actually been right beside the key location before heading to the hotel, and there was no notice about collecting it elsewhere when we booked or at the hotel. We were often woken by movement from the room above, which seemed to have hard floors. Two towels for two people over three days wasn’t enough. When I asked housekeeping for more, I was told they don’t usually provide extras, though they did give them to us after I explained. There is laundry on site, but it’s costly, and I didn’t want to spend my holiday washing towels when more could have been supplied. The night before checkout, I asked a woman and then a man for a late checkout. They said it would cost $25 an hour and could only go until noon. I agreed and asked them to charge the card on file. At 11 the next morning, housekeeping woke me up abruptly and said I had to leave at 11, though it was already 11:10. I told her to check with the two staff members, explained I’d agreed to pay until 12, and said I’d leave then if they’d miscommunicated. She didn’t seem pleased. Despite these issues, I’d stay again and recommend the place, but communication and the towel limits need improvement.

I don’t understand the four-star rating. The place is nice and clean, but it definitely doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel. There’s no lobby, and you have to collect the keys somewhere else. The mattress was so soft it gave me back pain, and if you’re downstairs, good luck getting decent sleep!

The rooms are on the small side, but they’re nice, and the bathroom feels modern and lovely. The bed was super comfortable, with decent TV, Netflix and good Wi-Fi. My only minor gripe was that the guy at Royal Daylesford seemed a bit shirty with me, though he did give us a small discount on late checkout :)

It was clean and comfortable apart from a couple of things: the bed felt hard and lumpy, there were hairs left in a corner of the shower, and the walls between us and the units behind were thin.
