Hotel Frangos

Hotel Frangos is in a very good location, but the building is crying out for maintenance and renovation. Our Munro room was clean and spacious, with a bonus spa bath, but it was very dark and had no windows or fresh air. There was no wardrobe, only a freestanding metal coat hanger. The floors squeaked everywhere, and the stairs were in very poor condition; the carpets need replacing too. Breakfast was inconsistent but okay, and the coffee was good. We ate at the hotel twice in the early evening, and the food was very average. Guests should be treated with respect and given clear information when they ask questions. I wasn't happy with what I felt was a wrong response to a simple question, perhaps misunderstood because of a language issue or because the employee was overworked. That didn't justify telling us, demonstratively, that we could leave the hotel if we didn't like it. It was rude and wrong, and ruined our holiday. We heard an apology and were offered free drinks, but that couldn't take away the bitterness of what was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I'm giving one star. I wouldn't return to Hotel Frangos or recommend it.

That was the worst, most wildly overpriced breakfast I've ever had, and none of us will return or recommend it. I was quoted $106 for two breakfasts, and when I questioned the price the young guy got irritated. Who would assume that much for two breakfasts is normal? Then the server brought only one meal, even though we ordered two, and the bread came buttered despite my specific request for no butter. Our friends ordered 15 minutes after my partner and me, yet their food arrived first. One friend had ordered coffee with a separate pot of hot water, but only the coffee came. The hot water took another 15 minutes, by which time the coffee was cold. She ordered another coffee, and the same server brought it with an unrequested biscotti. He snatched it off the cup, spilled the coffee, and the coffee was burnt and undrinkable.

The food was lovely, and we managed to make the event space special for the bride before she arrived. But we had booked it for a bridal shower and walked into an old, dusty room being used for restaurant storage. Nobody knew about the booking or where we were meant to be. The room hadn't been vacuumed or prepared, so we had to ask for a vacuum and rearrange the whole space ourselves. It smelled musty, there were spare tiles and broken chairs lying around, and the manhole was open. Staff offered no help and seemed unhappy at work. We were also charged an extra surcharge for the QR code, and a $65 bottle of wine came to $75 with that and the weekend surcharges. The restaurant's linked accommodation around the corner was much nicer and cleaner; we should've booked it for the whole bridal shower.

The place felt run down and off-putting, with no cosy atmosphere and hardly any effort made inside. We ordered a souvlaki, a prochutto pizza and chips. The tomato sauce was the only good part. The lamb souvlaki was dry, with an absurd amount of oil pooling on the plate, and the pizza looked and tasted frozen. The orange juice seemed like it had been sitting on the counter all day. When we told the Supervisor we weren't happy, he shrugged it off. We spent money and left disappointed. I won't go back or recommend it.
