We paid nearly $4,000 for a big family gathering, expecting the lodge to look like the clean, well-kept property in the booking photos. It didn’t come close, which was especially upsetting for a special occasion. The place felt worn and neglected as soon as we arrived. It was dusty and dirty throughout, and clearly hadn’t had a basic clean before our stay. The ovens had been sprayed but not wiped out, the spa couldn’t be used, and the outdoor area was a mess. There was rubbish under the beds and between the couches, and moving furniture turned up more of it. The advertising photos are clearly out of date and don’t show the lodge’s current condition. I can’t recommend it as it is now. The owners should update the listing and put proper effort into cleaning and maintenance. Until then, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

Currawong works well for very large groups, with a big kitchen, multiple fridges, gas hotplates, and plenty of plates and glasses. There are basics like cereals, and you can buy steaks straight from the freezer. Bedrooms are mostly bunk rooms sleeping up to four. The interior is basic but functional, and there’s a large, comfortable fireplace area. Parking is limited.

You may have to figure a few things out yourself. I never got the WiFi working, but it didn’t bother me. If nobody’s there when you arrive, just call the number and you’ll get quick, friendly help. Great value, a comfortable bed, good showers, and Vegemite toast for breakfast. I’d recommend it.

I’ve come back every summer for almost 20 years. The bunk-room accommodation is clean, there’s a lovely open fireplace in the lounge, and the kitchen makes it easy to cater for yourself. There’s also a spa room.

We had a comfortable weekend here with seven young families, and the kids really enjoyed it. There’s loads of space, plus easy access to the car park and snow fields. Love this place.
