We were met by courteous, helpful front desk staff, and I have no complaint about the customer service. The room itself was another matter. It was so cramped for four people that I wouldn't choose it for a family with kids. The carpet looked old and dirty, there was hair on a bunk, the bathroom fan barely worked, and the air conditioner seemed ancient. I also found the bathroom warning about steam possibly setting off the fire alarm concerning. The worst part was spotting two fairly large spiders crawling across the ceiling above the top bunk. Their web looked like it had been there for months. I couldn't stop thinking they might drop onto us, and when my older child refused to sleep there, I took that bunk myself. It wasn't a restful night. I didn't raise a complaint at the time. I know it's a budget hotel, and I've stayed at IBIS Canberra, which was okay. Still, I'd pay a little more for somewhere decent for a night or two in Dubbo.

The reception staff were lovely and ready to help, and the room was fine for sleeping. The old bathroom had a strange smell, though. The kitchen was the main hassle. Guests can't use it from 7am to 10am because it's serving the continental breakfast, which costs $13 per person. There aren't microwaves or toasters in the rooms, so you need to bring something cold, pay for breakfast, eat earlier or later, or head out. Plates and bowls are kept in the kitchen too, so take what you need the night before. There's a kettle and mugs, but the kettle won't fit under the tap, so I had to fill it with a mug. These are manageable for the price, but useful to know before arriving.

After a long seven-hour drive to Dubbo for a family funeral, followed by the funeral and wake, we were exhausted and didn't have the energy to complain. We just went to sleep, left early, and won't stay there again. The room was tiny, with a little fridge that smelled of garlic. The sheets were clean but stained, and so was the blanket. There was only one spare blanket, and it was very thin. The air conditioner blew cold all night, and I couldn't work out how to adjust it. We had only half a roll of toilet paper and no extra. The bathroom was in poor shape too: the shower recess didn't look scrubbed, there was no exhaust fan, and a door notice said to keep it shut after a hot shower in case steam set off the smoke alarm. We also had to climb many flights of stairs because there's no lift. The front desk staff said nothing while we struggled in and tried to figure out the key cards. For a budget motel, this room was ridiculous.

For one night while passing through Dubbo, it was comfortable enough and worth the price. The room was very small, so I wouldn't want to stay longer unless I was only there to sleep. The bed was firm and comfortable, the room was clean, and both the fridge and air conditioning worked perfectly. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

There were cracks in the ceiling, nowhere to hang clothes, no bedside tables, and no iron or ironing board. The TV was small enough that you'd want good eyesight, the pillows were completely flat, and the doona was thin and sandwiched between sheets. The bed was very low, and the shower pressure was so weak that it was frustrating. Our room wasn't made up while we were at work. We had no bar fridge, so we used the shared one, but it gets locked at 10pm. If you start work early, you can't get your things out in the morning. There's no lift for disabled guests or people with babies to get between floors. It's one of the smallest rooms I've stayed in. For what they charge per night, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
