Dubbo Midstate Caravan Park

I’ve stayed in both a cabin and a motel room, and enjoyed both visits. Parking was easy, and it’s easy to get to.

We booked two nights of camping but left after being placed between the dump point and two other sites. When we tried to set up, a rude man told us our box trailer with a camper couldn’t go on the concrete and said to move it onto the grass. That put us much too close to an older man in a motorhome, or we could move nearer the dump point. The greeting on arrival had been average too. Think twice before camping there.

I left a day early because I’ve never felt so unwelcome or uncomfortable at a caravan park in all my years of camping. I was nearly turned away from my prepaid booking because I planned to sleep in my car. As a solo woman traveller, I prefer to pay for a powered or unpowered site to feel safer while car camping. I asked the manager’s wife how that differed from someone sleeping in a caravan they’d towed in. I also explained I’d car camped across Queensland, NSW and Victoria without problems. She reluctantly let me keep the booking, rolled her eyes, and I left the office. Less than ten minutes later, a man came to my car, identified himself as the manager, and told me I should know to reverse into the site for fire safety since I’d apparently camped so much. I’d never heard of that rule, and the woman in the office hadn’t mentioned it. I left to get food. When I came back, more caravans had arrived and nearly all their cars were parked facing forward. I saw the same manager drive around the park at least twice before dark, and he didn’t tell any of those campers to reverse. Zero stars if I could.

Cabin 17 was perfect for an overnight stay: spacious, clean and peaceful, and I slept well. I’d recommend it and stay here again next year.
