New Haus by Hougoumont Hotel

We were upgraded to a room with a balcony, which was lovely. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the staff were helpful. We had a pleasant stay and would happily come back. The only hiccup was parking when we arrived. We hadn’t realized it was across the road at the original building. Otherwise, it’s a perfect base for exploring Freo.

The reception staff were very welcoming, and the room was clean. It’s a nice place to stay. I’d suggest adding more options to the breakfast menu.

The location was a plus, close to the Main Street cafes and restaurants. It was noisy at night, but the windows did a decent job of blocking most of the outside sound. Our deluxe room had a spacious bathroom, though the vanity was strangely tiny and the shower soaps were on the floor. The design felt cold and minimal, all grey with a single black and white painting. Grey can look great when it’s done with taste, but this wasn’t. The aircon wasn’t working well, and there was a weird smell. Someone said they’d get back to us about it, but no one did. Service was so-so.

There’s plenty of space in the apartment and the location is right in the heart of busy Market Street in Fremantle. The room didn’t quite meet the standard we expected. A bar next door played thumping music once it opened, so we couldn’t open the windows or relax on the balcony.
