The Gateway Hotel

The bistro was a nice space, and staff were great, explaining the food in detail and showing us our table. Drinks were great too, with excellent, friendly service from the bartender and good conversation. The food was disappointing. There weren’t many options, the meats were dry despite being soaked in juices, and neither the fruit nor seafood tasted fresh. They had an unusual flavour.

I drove three hours and booked the buffet in advance, but the lady manager’s behaviour made us feel so uncomfortable from her backhanded comments that we couldn’t finish our food. We paid so much, too. This used to be a favourite place of mine to bring family, but I won’t go again. Her foul language and disgusting behaviour were disappointing, and she has no business working as a manager without the right customer service skills. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We came for dinner as a large group, with two servers taking payments and seating people. The younger girl was very polite. The older lady yelled at us for being in the wrong line while we were respectfully waiting our turn. She said we should all be in the same line because we were a larger group, then, once she realized there were only a few of us, huffed and told us to come back over there. My partner and I also got attitude when ordering drinks at the bar on the pokies side. They may need to reassess the staff and hire people who can work in hospitality without the attitude.

There are heaps of parking spaces, and the rooms are clean with good amenities. The all-you-can-eat restaurant was amazing, with a huge variety of really well-made food. There’s a TAB and pokies open till the wee hours, with heaps of machines to choose from, plus free soft drink and nibblies.
