Gladstone Capricorn Apartments

We left wondering how this place could have positive ratings, and I won’t be back. The room felt more like a dim, unsettling cell than somewhere to rest, with just a small high window letting in very little light. The bathroom lights flickered, and the bedside lamp stopped working halfway through the evening. We had to haul luggage up steep stairs, with no lift or accessibility options in sight. Cleanliness was alarming, and I spent the night worried about cockroaches or other vermin. Guests on the balcony right outside our room talked loudly on their phones and smoked; the smell came inside and made the air unbearable, while the windows couldn’t be opened. The so-called apartment kitchen had only a sink and mini fridge, with no stove, microwave or other cooking facilities. It felt more like a rundown motel than a four-star hotel, and even that description seems generous. I’d tell others to read reviews carefully before booking.

The bed was too soft, and I couldn’t change channels on the TV. When I showered, water escaped under the door and ended up on the floor in front of the wash basin.

The room smelled like flea and tick powder, only 100% stronger. If you have asthma, any breathing issues, or any self respect, please don’t stay here ever.

Check-in was easy. I called, was talked through it over the phone, then got an SMS with the details, and the person on the phone was lovely. The standard room had a queen and one single bed, plus the basics like a kitchen sink, cups, glasses, wine glasses, kettle and electric fry pan. But it was run down and badly unclean. There were stains on the blankets, hair and pubic hair on the bathroom sink, shower and sheets on both beds, dirt in the shower, bathroom corners and kitchen sink, and cockroaches scattered when the bathroom lights came on. With the cleanliness fixed, it could hands down be a great hotel in a wonderful location. I wouldn’t stay again because it was unclean.
