Aegean Apartments

The balcony view was lovely and the location was fantastic. That was about it for the good parts. The bedroom air con was missing, which made the stay really uncomfortable by the end of the week. I know only half the apartments have it, but I only learned that after arriving. Since every photo for our room type showed bedroom air con, it didn't seem unreasonable to expect it for nearly $400 a night. Cleaning was okay if you didn't look too closely, especially at the shower screen bottoms and corners. Of the three lamps, one didn't work and another only worked when it felt like it. Not a huge deal, but at that price the little things get irritating. The rollaway arrived without pillows and had such a thin mattress that even my 10 year old struggled. I asked for another pillow, but it never came, so I gave up mine for the rest of the stay. Could I have tried reception again? Sure. But I'm on holiday, not there to handle admin and chase requests or fit activities around reception hours.

Kim and Rick at reception made my January stay at Aegean Apartments even better. They were welcoming, friendly and always ready to help. I had a wonderful time, felt well cared for throughout, and was extremely satisfied with the experience.

The location was great, right by transport and an easy walk into surfers for cafes, restaurants and the beach. Parking was easy, and the indoor and outdoor pools and spa were clean and well maintained. Our apartment, 14D, was comfortable, with good beds, air conditioning in each bedroom and a comfortable lounge in the large living room. The bathrooms had been updated and looked nice, but the ensuite shower didn't drain properly, and water pooled while I was in it. After each shower I saw a wet patch on the carpet just outside the rusty sliding mirror door, so I wonder if there's a leak. I'll email the apartments about it. The apartment was spacious with a large balcony, but the two old, rusty metal table settings were uncomfortable and nearly falling apart. The furnishings were dated, the carpet badly stained, and the kitchen was original, though it worked for our short stay. For nearly $900 for three nights, I'd have expected some updating. It's a shame, because new carpet, paint and furniture would help a lot.

We were sharing the apartment with cockroaches, yet they blamed a bad smell on me forgetting an onion and my husband smoking on the balcony. We paid nearly $10,000 for two weeks, and it wasn't worth it. During the second week, drilling from repairs upstairs kept us awake. We were on holiday and went to bed late, but had to get up early to the noise. We were angry, exhausted and had the most miserable, sleepless holiday. There was a terrible smell when we stepped out of the elevator, and it bothered everyone when we first arrived. They should get the hallway carpets professionally cleaned. The first glasses we took for coffee smelled of milk so badly we couldn't drink from them. We washed them and didn't complain. But they kept our bond over an onion I'd left in a drawer and my husband's cigarette on the balcony, giving ridiculous reasons. The internet was poor, mostly working in the living room before cutting out, and not working in the other rooms. The shower was bad too. If someone flushed the toilet or turned on the sink while another person showered, the water went cold and stopped by itself. There was a spider in the pool while we were swimming, and I lost my chance to relax there. We totally got ripped off. Absolutely rubbish, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. PS: Now you'll come up with reasons to justify keeping the bond, but I'll tell my friends and social media about the cockroaches, filthy pool and huge dead spider we swam with.
