BreakFree Cosmopolitan Surfers Paradise

The room made this a horrible stay, and I’ll never stay at this hotel again. It smelled like mould in both the kitchen and bathroom. The shower hadn’t been cleaned properly, the balcony chairs looked ready to break, and the room’s aircon barely worked and needed cleaning because there was dirt and mould on it. The weekday staff were wonderful. But when I was gathering my last things before checking out, the weekend receptionist sent maintenance to my room before 10am, then called to ask whether I was checking out. It was before 9:30am. Wow.

The pool, view and location were the only good parts. Customer service was horrible and everything felt disorganized. We had dirty dishes, rubbish and leftover food in the cupboards, only two toilet rolls for four people over nine days, and just one room key for all of us until we asked for another. The walls are thin, so nights get loud. There was no wifi either. The website said check-in was available until 10pm. We arrived from the airport at 5pm to find reception empty. We called the after-hours number about 12 times, but they kept hanging up on us. There was one really nice young lady at reception.

In the heart of Surfer Paradise, so it’s handy for getting around, but the street downstairs is far too busy and noisy. We had trouble checking in because reception was closed and we hadn’t been sent a code for the key lockers. There was no Wifi or toilet tissue until we asked.

The location, right in the heart of Surfers Paradise, was fantastic, but it didn’t make up for the cramped room and poor service. At $370 a night, I expected much better, and we wouldn’t stay here again. The room looked much larger in the advertised pictures than it was in person. Four adults felt cramped in it. Nothing was serviced during our three-day stay, and we got just one roll of toilet paper for the four of us. There were no extra blankets either. The air conditioning was impossible to regulate, swinging between freezing and uncomfortably hot. The lack of space, amenities and basic servicing really let us down.
