Surfers Riverside Apartments

The location was great, but everything else let us down. Reception staff were rude and unhelpful. We thought the underground parking was good until a cleaner emptied a steam cleaner beside our car and covered it in filth. The kitchen wasn’t set up for decent cooking: one small pan without a lid, a battered frying pan, and a microwave that barely worked. Grease dripped onto the stove from the overhead extractor. The en suite was in poor shape too. The cold tap kept leaking, the shower door jammed, and there was no door.

The staff attitude was the final straw. I told him the Wi-Fi wasn’t working, but he did nothing and just said the contract days had ended. So what? That arrogant attitude seems typical there. I stayed for several days, couldn’t sleep because of noisy party people upstairs and neighbours, and the room was the most disgusting I’ve ever stayed in. The kitchen looked clean until I opened the cupboards. There were more cockroaches than I could count, big and small. The utensils had been put away wet, which just makes it easier for more cockroaches to live there. There were cockroaches behind the wardrobe too. Just a cockroach motel. I spent all my data and met plenty of cockroaches, along with noisy neighbours who smelled of smoke. Thanks for an unforgettable stay. I’m using a different name, so don’t tell me I didn’t stay in your room. Disgusting.

We had very few cooking utensils, and not even a broom to sweep the floor. There was no dishwashing liquid or powder, and when we asked, reception had none. They told us to use laundry liquid instead. We were also given just two toilet rolls for five nights. The shower screen had fallen off and been left beside the shower and toilet when we arrived. The dryer didn’t work either. A guy went into our apartment while we were out without telling us, then said he’d checked and the dryer was fine. It still wasn’t working. My daughter was in the pool when the maintenance man started tipping chemicals into it. That should be done while the pool area is closed.

We could walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants from this spot in central Surfers, yet the pool area by the river was peaceful enough to lounge and unwind. Our room was clean and nice, with the amenities provided. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the stay exceeded what we expected. Felt lucky to find this gem. We’d happily come back.
