The pool was a fun part of the stay, and the water was warm. The beach, with its life-saving tower, is about a 10-minute walk away, and the tram line makes getting to the conference centre easy. Our apartment was clean, though not especially trendy. The TV had no aerial, so it didn't work. When I called to say I'd be late, they couldn't find my booking, and at checkout they had no record I'd stayed there.

My father couldn't cancel after making the reservation, and ended up paying almost $300 for one night in a two-bedroom apartment that could fit six people. He was only visiting with two small children. I'd called to reserve a room for him, but the receptionist tried to charge almost $800 for three nights. He should have been put in a queen and single room. I was appalled and feel he was scammed.

The grounds looked quite nice, but our apartment was filthy and I couldn't wait to leave. The Manager showed us to the room, then we never saw anyone again. I feel a little sorry for him, since it may be the owners' choice not to spend money on their apartments. Still, cleanliness is a deal breaker for me, and I imagine for most people. Find somewhere else or you'll be very disappointed.

For peak holiday season the price was reasonable, and the location was handy for local attractions. The gardens were nice, and the pool and BBQ were okay, nothing special. The beds need replacing: the Queen was just okay, while the kids' foam mattresses were hard as rocks. Even the local backpacker hostel beds would have been better. We were given one garbage bag, one dishwasher tablet, and one toilet roll per toilet, so expect to buy more.

Waking up to the pool and palm trees each morning was breathtaking, and Surfers Tropique is a great place for families. Bob does an amazing job keeping the place looking stunning. I'll be back next year for sure.
