Viscount on the Beach

Privacy was the biggest concern for us. The manager opened the door without knocking, and on another occasion came into the apartment while we were out. We felt unsafe and uncomfortable. When I asked to speak with her the next day, she disappeared and we didn't see her again for the rest of our stay. She was also rude to other guests. The advertised air conditioning in the lounge didn't work at all during our stay. Maintenance said the whole system was broken, but no real repair, alternative cooling, different accommodation or compensation was offered. In the humid weather, that made things uncomfortable. We were also wrongly accused of smoking, though nobody in our group smoked at any time. The apartment smelled strongly of eggs, and the kitchen floor and counters were sticky when we arrived. These were genuine cleanliness issues, and the problems weren't resolved to the advertised standard. Communication was one-sided too: the manager called repeatedly after office hours, but when I called at 5:30 pm I was told to call only during office hours. We didn't agree to a specific meeting time, so the claim that we arranged one and failed to attend is incorrect. If management says otherwise, they should provide the written confirmation or message records. Our car wouldn't fit in the allocated garage space, and after we raised this, an on-site staff member directed us to visitor parking. We followed that guidance. We raised everything respectfully and in good faith. We stand by this account of a poorly managed and uncomfortable stay, and would neither return nor recommend it.

The small size of the complex is part of what I love: nine floors, with just three apartments on each. The apartments are modern, clean and spacious, and the views and location are magnificent. This was my third visit to Viscount on the Beach, for two weeks during the September school holidays. Covid lockdowns kept it from being my fourth, but it won't be my last. Thanks to Amber for a wonderful stay. Jenny K

Privacy made us uncomfortable throughout the stay. The manager came into the apartment while we were away, and another time tried to enter while guests were inside. The place also wasn't clean when we arrived: floors, benches and tables were visibly dirty, and the blankets were stained. The air conditioning was advertised but wasn't working. We reported it and asked for the issue to be fixed, but no repairs were done. The stay fell short on cleanliness, maintenance and privacy.

The ocean waves and sunsets were lovely, and the views, beachside location and friendly staff made for a great stay. I got chatting with the staff and really enjoyed it. When a blind broke in one room, they fixed it so quickly, late in the afternoon too, that I was genuinely impressed. It didn't affect our stay. There was very loud construction next door, starting around 5:30-6 am each morning. That's outside the staff's control and doesn't change my review. A couple of small things could be better: the ceiling fans needed a more thorough clean, and the supplied dish sponge looked like it had been cut in half unevenly. I didn't take a photo, as I'd brought my own sponges anyway. Aside from that, all was good, and I'd stay again.
