Ten Dollar Town Motel

Believe the one-star reviews until the new owners take over. The room smelled musty, there were dead cockroaches and water-damaged walls, and the shower floor had broken and missing tiles. More loose tiles came away with a light touch, exposing pooled dirty water. That’s a safety hazard and, as I see it, a failure to provide safe, fit-for-purpose accommodation under Australian consumer law. When we raised our concerns, the hotel blamed the miners who stay during the week. We did get a refund, but it was $30 less than we’d paid. We were travelling as three family groups and, left with only two rooms, had to leave. They didn’t offer a refund for all the rooms or another room. Think about who deserves your business, at least until the new owners take over.

The room was pretty cheap by today’s standards, and breakfast was included, which was nice. But the floor was dirty, and the staff were quite unfriendly, barely saying a few words as if they didn’t want us there. My recent stay at the ten dollar town motel was okay overall, but I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you’re just passing through and need somewhere very cheap for the night. There are much better options in and around Mudgee, only 20 minutes from Gulgong.

Right in the middle of town and close to everything, with breakfast included and great value for money. The room was a good size and comfortable. It’s a modest place and a bit dated, but very clean and quiet. I really can’t fault anything.

The food was very good, and guests get a discount. Breakfast was included and was just the best: generous serves, cooked perfectly, and no menu restrictions. The rooms are very clean and have everything you need. The shower let things down, though. It was small with no water pressure, and the tap was hard to turn because it leaked. Highly recommended for the meal and breakfast.
