The burgers are great, and it’s an easy place to strike up a conversation. I’ve been a couple of times and found the atmosphere good, with alcohol served responsibly and security that didn’t intrude. There’s a pool table and cricket on the big screen, though I soon found people to chat with. Beer costs about 30% more than in a major city. The tuna wasn’t anything special, but the chips were good and the salad was crisp with a nice dressing. The bloke with the barra seemed happier, which makes sense given how far away they are from the sea.

More than $12 for a midi of lemon, lime and bitters seems pretty outlandish to me. Russian Jack's down the road charges $7.50 and has T-bone for $25. I know where I’ll eat next time.

The food was awful, and it costs more here than at the Halls Creek Motel restaurant and bar. The pub is the only one in town, so I’ll give it that, but a pub is a pub. Compared with Halls Creek Motel, the food is bad too. They’ve also started copying its menu almost word for word, item for item. That tells you what you need to know. Don’t eat here, go to the better option in town.

$8.50 for a can of Sprite has to be the most expensive one I’ve ever seen. I can understand a reasonable markup for freight, but who approved this ridiculous price? The staff really seem to think they’re above the law. They kick people out and hand out bans for no real reason, just because they can. Abuse of power!

A bushfire blocked the highway and delayed us, which was very disappointing. They still refused to refund us, even though it was a natural disaster. On principle, I’d never stay there.
