Grampians Motel

I’ve never felt so unwelcome. We came to reception about the disgusting toilet and asked for a proper clean. Michael was visibly annoyed and snapped that the cleaners had finished for the day, then tried to shoo us out as if we were a nuisance for expecting a clean room. The place felt old, grimy and neglected, like it hadn’t been touched or renovated in over 30 years. The glass door lock also felt flimsy enough to break or open with very little pressure. It was an absolute nightmare. Do yourself a favor and drive farther down the road. There are other motels with better views and staff who understand basic hospitality and cleanliness. Avoid this place at all costs.

Michael was super friendly and entertaining, taking on the roles of front desk man, barman, waiter and manager. My 8 year old granddaughter and I had such a lovely time that she wants to return. The room was clean and comfortable, and we slept like babies. We enjoyed the small but delicious restaurant menu, and seeing Buddy the kangaroo at dinner was a treat. The grounds are extensive, with a pool and amazing views. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks, Michael!

I’ve filed formal complaints about the property’s security and privacy with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV), Case #C2026/03/003xxx, Northern Grampians Shire Council, and Booking.com Customer Security Team, Case#6829949xxx. When I arrived, the key collection box was wide open and unattended in a public area. All the guest room keys, labeled with names, were accessible to anyone, with no ID check. In a written response, the manager blamed a previous guest instead of accepting the motel’s responsibility for guest safety. While I was away, I found clear signs that my room had been disturbed, but it hadn’t been cleaned and the trash was still there. The manager had said housekeeping left by 11 AM, which made the entry highly suspicious and, in my view, a direct invasion of private space. I reported feeling unsafe and asked for help, but the manager wouldn’t offer a room change or assistance and repeatedly pressured us aggressively to leave reception. He said the property was effectively unstaffed after housekeeping left at 11 AM, even though check out is 10am and check in is 2pm. That’s an unacceptable and dangerous way to operate accommodation. Rather than address the documented security breach, the manager mocked my concerns as a “ghost story” in his official response. Treating a paying guest that way instead of fixing a broken security system is professional misconduct. Stay at your own RISK. Your keys, belongings and personal safety aren’t protected here.

A beautiful view and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere made this a lovely place to enjoy the Grampians. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. Highly recommended!
