The Menai Hotel Motel

For $130, I wasn't expecting a lot, and I didn't eat at the restaurant so can't comment on that. The room was big, with lots of windows and great light, almost like a corner suite. It had a microwave, toaster and a TV that was decent, plus heating in one of the two rooms. The carpets were dirty, though, and the bath was tiny with 1950s fixtures. There's no lift, so be ready for some exercise. I hope the night goes well in this queen bed with my wife.

We won't visit the Menai again, and I wouldn't recommend it. On our first visit, our group of roughly 13 went to the bar, and every one of us was treated appallingly by the male staff member behind it. We were all paying customers, but from the first purchase he was abrupt and rude, telling us to hurry up and order because he had other things to do. At one point we rang the service bell, and he stormed out, ripped it off the bar and slammed it down. We respectfully asked the manager for a confidential chat about what was happening, but he wouldn't let us move somewhere else to talk. When we raised our concerns, he laughed in our face and showed no care about how his staff member had treated us. Poor customer service and poor management.

There's a huge amount of seating for large groups, and the main bar has several pool tables, dart boards and arcade games. The new menu is top of the range, with pizzas, burgers and modern takes on classic pub meals. Cold beer on tap, plus a large selection of top shelf drinks and wines. Highly recommend a visit.

Looking for a family friendly place in Burnie to take the kids? This is a great spot. We had a great time at dinner tonight, and the kids actually ate everything. The food was decent, staff super friendly, and mini golf and arcade games are a great addition.
