Huskisson Beach B&B

After paying over 3k for two nights for 18 people, including kids, in three beach bungalows next to each other, we won't come back. On earlier family stays, we'd booked three front beach bungalows and usually enjoyed ourselves, but this visit was shocking. We felt watched on cameras and listened to, and were told what we could and couldn't do. We were texted and called about packing up our things under the owner's terms and conditions. When we checked those the next morning, they didn't say what we'd been told, and after we pointed that out, she stopped replying and sent a generic after hours message, even though she'd been contacting us at all hours the day and night before. We were told not to gather on one bungalow's deck after 10pm. We didn't argue, although she said on the phone she could see us. We were also told we couldn't have shisha outside on the footpath between our three cabins, away from anyone else. We'd had no problem with this on our three earlier stays. The cabins were outdated, smelly and dusty, the aircon didn't work, and the wifi kept cutting out. It seemed like the owner was targeting us this time. We'll take it further, especially over being watched and listened to. The price wasn't worth it.

It did the job, and the cleaners were great, but know that room 2 is a converted bedroom inside a larger house, not a cabin. The bunks didn't feel safe for kids: the mattresses didn't fit the bases, fingers and toes got caught, and exposed metal left arms and legs bruised. There was nowhere to sit without stools blocking everything. Parking was unavailable, so in peak season we had to park nearly a block away. The laundry only takes 5x$1 coins, and there aren't nearby shops to get change. With only one fob for the front and bedroom doors, getting in and out was awkward, and there was a real chance of kids being locked in the room with no manager on site. If you can stay somewhere else, do.

The room was clean, but this was no resort or escape, and the price didn't feel justified. In the disabled cabin, the parking space was so tight and had bbqs right at the end that there was no room to swing in or reverse. My husband had a walker, which we had to pass over a bbq to him from the back of the car. Bins blocked the narrow access behind it, and one walker leg went into a gap by the fence. The toilet seat wasn't fitted properly and kept moving. I nearly fell, so I warned my husband, who had to use his walker and the provided bars to sit. It felt squashed in to make money. We won't be back.

The lovely location couldn't make up for this stay, and I wouldn't recommend the place for a getaway. We had no hot water on the first night, the TV didn't work, and the aircon wasn't working properly. I had just been discharged from hospital, so moving late at night in the dark and extreme cold wasn't a viable option, even though after hours staff offered the cabin next door. The following morning, the day manager said she'd contact management about the inconvenience, but nobody returned our call. She then abruptly said that because we declined to move the previous night, we had no recourse. The bunk beds were exceptionally hard and uncomfortable, and the pillows were flat and uncomfortable too. Hospitality was severely lacking.
