The Cottage on George Street

We had the whole cottage and loved it as a close-to-Perth overnight escape. There was a hot water problem, but the owners came out quickly to sort it, even in the rain. It didn’t spoil our stay, and I can’t think of anything negative about Cottage on George.

The queen bed was comfortable, and the wifi and plumbing both worked. But for $240 a night for a couple, a bed, bathroom, and only half a breakfast really isn’t enough. I’d never had a “b&b” before that didn’t include milk, bread, fresh fruit, or juice in a continental breakfast. The arrival email joked that the chickens might supply fresh eggs, but there were no animals around, just an empty chook pen. I was very disappointed, though there aren’t many choices in Jarrahdale.

The location is quiet and calming, but taking my three kids here was the worst decision. The trampoline was falling apart, the fans were broken at the bottom, and the port-a-cot was broken too. The bathroom had mould throughout. I didn’t want to touch the food provided because there was no way to know how long it had been there. The wildlife they’re meant to have wandering the property looked starving and desperately thirsty. With no TV, the kids went crazy, and the board games were outdated and missing pieces. There was also a surveillance system set up that they hadn’t told us about.

The bed was really comfortable, and the shared bathroom had a roomy shower with plenty of space. It’s a lovely, peaceful country stay with all the amenities, including fresh eggs from the chooks. The owner was friendly, and I’d recommend it.
