Gaerwood B&B

We were greeted by Helena and Roland with a much-needed glass of wine, and they were both so friendly. The property is beautiful, and our room was clean and comfortable. A fantastic experience.

A handy place to stop on the drive between Melbourne and Adelaide. The house is beautiful, the hosts are lovely, and breakfast was great.

Our room at Gaerwood was immaculate, with good facilities and just the right size for our family of four. Helena and Roland were generous hosts and so accommodating with our family. We stayed on the way from Melbourne to Adelaide and had a wonderful time. Gaerwood seems popular, so book early if you're coming to Keith.

For an overnight stop, the place met our needs, though I didn't get much sleep because the king bed was very uncomfortable. There was a large dip where my lower back rested. I've had my back checked many times and have degenerative disc disease, so the bed was a real problem for me. The room was described as a "King Suite," but it was a master bedroom in a 1950s ranch-style home. I also thought the carpet smelled of carpet powder and needed professional cleaning. Regular cleaning may not get rid of an older carpet smell. The owner is elderly and very kind, and I understand she may have limits in looking after the house. A cleaning service before guests arrive might help. I know why someone might prefer not to hire cleaners for their home, since we clean our own too. The bathroom vanity could use better lighting, and an interior lock on the room door would be nice for security. The owner later explained that you press in the doorknob and turn it to lock, which I could have asked about when we arrived. The dinner suggestions were okay. We took a short walk through the nearby park to a 1950s hotel banquet room converted into a restaurant. The food was good, with a decent choice of cold beers on tap and in bottles, soft drinks and liquor. We enjoyed the walk back through downtown Keith, a small rural town. There were a few small kangaroos in a fenced area in the middle of the park. To me, they looked sad and as if they wanted to be free. This is just my honest opinion, though some might think I'm being too critical.
