Marine Boutique Apartments

The carpet in Unit 3/36 smelled putrid, possibly from unhealthy mould after a bath overflow, or from vomit, or both. It felt potentially dangerous to stay there. The carpet needs to be ripped out and replaced with tiles, and the place needs a general refurb. I did give the service a better rating because they moved us from that unacceptable unit to a much larger, very good apartment and compensated us with a bottle of wine.

We had to walk about 800 metres to Paradiso motel to collect clean towels, and they were only open for limited hours. Nobody told us there was no management on site, so we had to find Paradiso ourselves and collect keys to get into the apartment. We couldn’t reach anyone and had no choice but to stay. Nothing was fixed, either. They said they could move us to another property, but we had no reason to think that would be any better. These people shouldn’t be renting out properties. The apartment was filthy and very run down. The ad falsely said there was a kitchen, but all we found was a grotty microwave, dirty cutlery and plates, and chipped, stained cups. The vacuum in the cupboard was full and filthy, so I’m not sure the place even gets cleaned. Outside, the old, dirty daybed sat on a dirty balcony, with a rusty pedestal fan that pointed straight outdoors. The weathered table and chairs felt like they might break. The toilet and shower were dirty, the toilet was stained, and the hand basin was so bad that we were expected to wash dishes in it. The spa was broken and the jets didn’t work. The property was falsely advertised as nice and I really can’t recommend it.

We were relieved we’d only booked two nights, sight unseen. Apartment Number 1 was listed on the Website as 4.5 stars, but it was extremely disappointing. The room was clean and tidy, but very small, dark and dingy. There wasn’t a proper kitchen, just a microwave in the bedsitter and a few plates and cutlery in a cupboard in another bedroom. The ironing board was broken, and there was no iron. We definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

The price was reasonable, and the location was handy for the beach, cafes and shops. We stayed for two nights in December, just before Christmas Day, but the room felt tired and grimy. There were fingerprints on the glass doors and mirrors, tea marks inside the white mugs, and the white plastic bin still smelled and looked dirty under its new liner. The carpet felt sticky underfoot, and the splash pool filter was noisy overnight.
