Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn

The rooms weren't especially appealing to me, but they were definitely clean and had everything you need. A good motel for a pleasant stay if you're mostly using your room to sleep.

It's about a 10 minute walk to town and the cafes, but I wouldn't recommend staying long. The driveway had potholes and the back garden was unkempt. Reception was unmanned for much of the time, and there was no breakfast unless you were part of a group. It's a basic 70s-style motel that hasn't been renovated in years, with exposed internal brick walls.

The staff were friendly and check-in was easy. The rooms are older style, but very clean and well kept, and the split system air conditioner and heater worked excellently. There are amazing beachside views, and it clearly feels like a well loved family business. For a 3-star motel, it was definitely worth 5 stars.

The motel was outdated and run down, and the service was deplorable. My room wasn't serviced during my stay. There were three in-date milks in the fridge, with the rest expired. I was stranded on the island because the ferries weren't running, and on my third day asked if I could check out at 12:30, when the next ferry update was due, instead of waiting in my car in horrible weather. The Indian owner showed no consideration for my situation and said I'd have to pay half a day. I was the only guest in a 20-room hotel. The ferries were cancelled again, so they lost their only customer. Another hotel was much more understanding, held a room for me without payment, and I stayed there that night. In response to their reply: half a night's charge for 2.5 hours is not a reduced amount, and I was the only one staying there. The room had a sign saying it would be serviced daily at a specified time, and there was no door sign to put out as they claimed. The milk was expired and I put it in the bin. I left at 10:05, and their staff even drove past to check, so that doesn't support their claim about me staying longer. Kindness and respect go a long way. When I called, all I got was no, they'd charge half a night if I wanted to stay until 12:30. If they'd shown me some kindness, I would happily have stayed another night and my review would have been quite different.
