Dawson Motel

The manager lost my partner’s bag during a requested room change, even though it contained his medications. We asked for a partial refund or a comped night because of what happened, and were told the overseas owner would discuss it the next morning. We never heard back. Instead, the police were called at 11 pm. They were sympathetic and tried to reason with the owner, who just dug their heels in. We’d booked the Dawson Motel because it advertised a pool and Wi-Fi. Nobody told us before arrival that either facility was unavailable. The pool was coated in thick green algae and unusable, and we were told the owner doesn’t like running it because of the power cost. We even helped staff try to fix the situation, and they were thankful, but the pool stayed unsafe and unusable for our whole stay. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in the rooms either, so we ended up troubleshooting and fixing the router ourselves. Guests shouldn’t have to provide free IT support for an advertised service. The motel knowingly advertised facilities it had no intention of providing, left guests to deal with its operational problems, mishandled personal property and escalated a legitimate complaint in an extreme, inappropriate way. One star is generous, and only because zero isn’t an option.

Our kids had a ball, and the pool with the BBQ beside it was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. We stayed a few nights in a very good family room, with a table and chairs out front in a private spot. Host Gregory was easy to approach, extremely accommodating and made us feel welcome. The facilities were very good, and the property faces a large oval and park, which made for a pleasant view.

I booked this as a stop on the drive back from the Gold Coast to Sydney and didn’t expect the room to be so nice. It was modern and really clean, with a comfortable bed and a nice shower. The pool was refreshing for a swim at night, and the owner was friendly and welcoming when he greeted me and showed me to the room. I’d definitely stay again if I visit Lismore, and highly recommend it.

The pool is excellent, room service was great, and the staff made us feel welcome. It’s a really comfortable place that feels like a home away from home. The price is absolutely worth it for what you get. Thanks for a great stay, I’d definitely recommend it. 👍
