Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park

We stopped here for our last night on the Great Ocean Road. It was expensive, especially with only a handful of campers there, even on a busy weekend. The facilities were great and clean, and staff were friendly 😊. Finding our allocated spot on arrival was difficult, though. Better signage would solve that.

It's within walking distance of Lorne's main road, which is great. I stayed in the dog-friendly section, but the park itself felt like it had much more potential. The grounds are pretty basic, with bathrooms. Concrete sites or fairy lights in the trees could add something, and the back of the food shop looks industrial and spoils the vibe. Maybe some artwork or something to cover it could help. It needs a little more to give it that wow factor.

Our spot was site 21 in the top bank, right where the public road starts. Cars came in far too fast because the speed hump is further down. They need more signs or a hump before the sites begin, or someone could get hit. We spent the whole weekend on edge because our 6yo wanted to ride his bike. Still, the location is great for the beach and the town of lorne.

Our cabin was right by the riverbank, a lovely spot to feel close to nature. We saw a mother duck walking with her ducklings, and in the morning a beautiful bird perched on our balcony. I'm not sure what kind it was. There's also a BBQ pit just outside. We stayed one night in a 2 Bedroom Riverview Family Cabin. It was clean, compact, comfortable, quiet and cozy in the woods, with an ensuite and parking right beside the cabin. The beds were two bunks and a double, enough for our family of four. We had basic cutlery, pots and pans, a chopping board, electric stove, microwave, toaster, kettle, hot and cold shower, shower gel, towels and a dining table with chairs. Dishwashing liquid wasn't provided, but we could get it at the nearby supermarket. Foodworth Supermarket had basic supplies for cooking in the cabin, and Halal Lorne Fish & Chips was only a 2-minute drive away, with an extensive menu. Late check-in was easy: we got the safe's pincode by SMS and collected the keys outside the office. It's a compact apartment but cozy, and had all the essentials we needed. Hopefully we'll stay longer next time and experience more of the outback.
