I’ve got a four-bed dorm to myself at the moment, and in the last three days I’ve only noticed three other guests. It’s been quiet and very clean. The Victoria Market is about a two-minute walk away, and the Melbourne Central spot is handy. The manager’s friendly and helpful, the kitchen is mostly clean, and there’s a cupboard and fridge space set aside for you. At roughly $144 a week, the price seems fair.

It’s quiet and clean, and the staff are kind. The rent is cheap too. I like that it feels like an ordinary home.

The OTA listings are awful and fake. Reception is only open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, and it’s hard to find anyone outside those hours, even after WhatsApp messages or phone calls, so be careful about when you check in. There’s a 100 AUD deposit. If you pay cash, you might get it back; with a card, they don’t just hold the money, they take it and eventually return it, which shouldn’t be legal. You’re expected to clean and leave your room clean. The towel is about A4 size and isn’t changed, so a couple of days may be fine, but think carefully about staying longer.

The balcony is a great place to sit and unwind, especially with that evening view. You’re right in the city centre, and Queen Victoria Market is an easy walk away.

Booked through Airbnb and had a great stay. It’s clean and comfortable, though not especially social. There’s an easy tram ride to Flinders, and Path, a great coffee place, is just around the corner.
