Causeway 353 Hotel

The staff were kind, approachable, and helpful, and the room and bathroom were a good size. The bed was comfortable, with a good level of firmness. It’s perfectly placed in the city centre, within walking distance of Flinders Street Railway Station and close to a direct tram to Southern Cross Station, where the airport bus leaves from. The downside is that the rooms are dated and clearly worn, so it feels like you’re paying more than you get. The location only makes up for so much.

There’s plenty of room for a traveller, and the rooms are clean and tidy. The Melbourne CBD location is handy for major retailers, with trams nearby if you want to go further. I got good use out of the business centre. It’s good value, whether you’re here for business or pleasure. There are also small coffee and food cafes with lots of variety.

The room looked like a great deal when I booked, but when I arrived they rudely told me I couldn’t stay because I had a small Ninebot scooter. They wouldn’t allow it “IN THE BUILDING.” I’d already paid, so I asked for a refund and was told, “FINE BUT IT WILL TAKE 7-10 days to get it back.” Really? No apology, no help of any kind, just rudeness.

The room was quiet, the bed was large and comfortable, and I had no trouble with the room or facilities I used. The Causeway 353 is in a fantastic location and very reasonably priced. The staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. The room did look a little worn, with fraying carpet and peeling enamel on the sink, though nothing too dramatic at this price. The TV remote was a bit unreliable, but it would work if I persisted. I’d certainly stay again.
