City East Motel

DANGEROUS DIRTY PLACE. I won't come back. The floors and bedside cupboards hadn't been cleaned. The sheet on the Queen size bed covered the mattress but wasn't long enough to hang down either side. I asked for another room and was told there wasn't one. When I had the TV on and tried to boil the kettle for coffee, the power tripped. Staff flipped a switch in the power board and power came back, but it went off again. They came to check while the TV and kettle were running, and it tripped once more. Smoke was coming out of the taped side of the double power point. I'm reporting the place to consumer affairs because I believe it's dangerous. I know it's not an expensive motel, but we stayed in a cheaper one in the city that was far better.

Not worth even the low price. The air conditioning unit seemed clogged from lack of servicing and leaked water loudly onto the carpet whenever it ran. I told management, and they agreed it was broken but offered no fix. We weren't allowed to change rooms. At the agreed check-in time, our room still needed to be “cleaned.” Even after that, most surfaces had thick dust and much of the furniture had permanent stains. The whole building, especially the room, stank of smoke. Wi-Fi stopped working after the first day and remained down until we left, with no update or apology.

I only booked this motel in Collingwood because I had an event that night and didn't want to risk getting stabbed at the train station in the middle of the night on the way elsewhere. The toilet came PRE-PUBED, with the previous user's pubes still on the seat, which made me afraid to use anything else in the room. Then I found out the power plugs didn't work, an hour before my event when I wanted to charge my phone. Staff had already gone, so I had to make do with the charge I'd got from a bar. If I hadn't had anxiety, I would've gone full Karen and asked for a refund. This was treatment for a $30 motel, not the $150 I payed. Worst room experience of my life. I was a bit nervous after reading some reviews, but was happy as soon as I arrived. The woman at the desk was lovely, friendly, and helpful. My room was clean and warm, with a nice bathroom and everything I needed. There are obviously nicer hotels in Melbourne if you're willing to pay triple, but this was cosy, comfortable, and very affordable. Thanks for the stay.
