The location is the one thing that kept me at Dwell Village Melbourne. It’s near the University of Melbourne and the city, and the trams are easy to get to. I came on an agent’s recommendation, but now I wonder if they have a partnership with Dwell, since none of these problems were mentioned. After eight months in a “Premium Studio,” I don’t think the experience is worth the price. In winter the heater struggles against cold air coming through a rusted window that won’t shut fully; in summer, the lack of air conditioning makes it unbearably hot and sleep almost impossible, hard to believe in a building under ten years old. The internet is slow and unstable, even for basic browsing, and changing devices or settings doesn’t help. It seems like a building-wide issue. Soundproofing is poor, too, especially for rooms facing Flemington Road, where ambulances, helicopters and pedestrians make constant noise. There are cameras, access control and bike storage, so security is acceptable, but there are better places in Melbourne for this price. Some shared spaces have their uses, though there are problems. The laundry room is spacious and has washers and dryers, but no cameras, and my clothes were stolen once. The gym is tiny, poorly maintained, and its old machines aren’t suitable for serious workouts. The communal kitchen isn’t cleaned often enough, and the fryer oil seems older than my grandparents. Vending machines are restocked daily with snacks and meals at reasonable prices. The courtyard is pleasant, with a small pool and BBQ area, although I’ve rarely seen anyone use them. Staff and management are what really spoiled my stay. Service varies a lot. Some staff are polite and helpful, while others are rude, careless and seem untrained. I got three different answers from three different staff members when I asked about my lease. The worst was getting locked out on a winter night. It was 3°C and I was wearing pajamas. I rang the bell and called the hotline several times, but no one answered for over an hour. When someone finally came, they showed no apology or concern and just kept saying I had to pay the lockout fee. That lack of empathy was shocking. Staff have also entered my room for inspections without giving proper notice, which felt extremely disrespectful given how much we pay. They put on occasional social or food events, but most feel like people are just going through the motions. There’s no real warmth or sense of community. A few staff genuinely care, though, especially Alen, the former night security guard, who was always kind and respectful. Losing him was a big loss for the Dwell team. This was a disappointing place to live, and I wouldn’t recommend it. For the same price, you can find somewhere cleaner, cooler, quieter and better managed. Think carefully before signing a lease. You deserve better.

The staff and RAs were warm, patient and supportive from my first day at Dwell Village Melbourne. They helped whenever I had a question or problem and always made me feel heard. I stayed in a One Bedroom apartment, which had more space than I expected and became a cosy place to relax and study. Getting to uni or Brunswick was easy, with the 58, 59 and 19 trams a short walk away. Woolworths and an Asian grocery store nearby made everyday shopping convenient. I also felt safe thanks to the secure front gates and friendly night guard. Being opposite a hospital brought extra peace of mind when I needed urgent care, and I got help within minutes. The weekly themed food nights and twice-monthly outings were fun ways to meet people. Ice cream night was a highlight. The area has a welcoming, lively feel, with cafes like Baguette Studios and Cafe Tomi close by. My stay was a memorable part of my time in Australia, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first student accommodation experience. Dwell felt like a supportive community and a home away from home.

Pop, one of the managers, was always patient and ready to help. The staff are welcoming and the living environment is nice, and they have savory food for free every week! Best student accommodation ever, I’d recommend it to everyone!

I’ve lived here for 1 year and would definitely choose dwell again if I study here. The environment is really nice and the staff are friendly.

I moved out today after living here since March 2025, and it’s been an amazing stay. The building was clean, secure and well maintained, and the staff were friendly, responsive and genuinely helpful throughout. Conveniently located, with facilities that made everyday life easy, it always felt like home. I’m grateful the whole stay was so smooth and stress-free. Thank you Dwell, highly recommended for anyone looking for a place to live. This was one of my best living experiences!
