Econo Lodge Lilydale

I wasn't comfortable with how reception handled things. They came across as unfriendly and passive-aggressive, and wrote down my card details on a piece of paper after saying they needed them in case of damage. That feels unethical and possibly illegal, and leaves a risk of theft. The room window was also unlocked and could be reached from outside.

The place needs security and a renovation. I was worried someone might steal my car, while next door a couple had a loud, drug-fueled domestic and some young adults were partying upstairs. Rough as guts.

The room itself was nice, but the stay felt unsettling. We could hear everything overnight, from people talking in nearby rooms or outside to showers. I tried to brush off the strange feeling I had from the start, and we left the next day. Then I was told a man had been bashed after someone kicked in his door in the room next to ours a few weeks earlier. I was also told this happens regularly and that the place is called a “half way house.” Honestly, that was scary to hear, and I can see why the property wouldn't mention it. I'd keep it in mind if you're thinking of staying.

The beds were comfortable, and the hotel was clean and suited us well for a simple place to sleep. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We stayed two nights and would consider it again if we're in the area.
