InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto by IHG

We had a great second anniversary stay at Intercontinental Melbourne. The location made it easy to walk everywhere, and our signature suite was spacious and clean, though a little dated in spots. Breakfast had lots of choices and tasted great. Looking forward to coming back in July.

We were there through the Frances Perry hospital program and felt very well cared for. The room was set up just as expected, the facilities and hotel itself were lovely, and the buffet breakfast was next level. Even with a five-day-old baby, we made it to breakfast each day. Staff kindly found us a table a little away from other diners. We enjoyed nearby cafes, I could rest in the room while my partner went to the gym, and coffee by the rooftop pool was a treat. The midwives who supported us at the hotel each morning were even more helpful than we’d expected. A few things could have gone more smoothly. Shower water sometimes went lukewarm. Valet access to the car stopped after 7pm, which felt stressful, especially imagining a baby-related emergency. Twice meals arrived without the drinks, though staff sorted it out. And when we asked for a bottle opener, we were told the hotel had just one, then in use at the bar, so we could bring the bottle down. Odd, even though it was manageable. I didn’t want to leave and will definitely return. I’d highly recommend the hospital program.

The club floor room was very nice, and the CBD location worked well. Staff were friendly and accommodating throughout. The lounge had a small buffet plus nightly specials, and I really enjoyed that the drinks, from wine to whisky, were local. Breakfast in the restaurant had a good range too. A lovely InterContinental, and I’d happily stay again.

The service was the highlight of our stay at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. Everyone we met was warm, attentive, and professional from arrival through checkout. We also appreciated the complimentary upgrade, which gave my family more room and a better view, and made us feel especially welcome. The historic neo-gothic facade and glass atrium are beautiful, with a real old-world feel. Our room was spotless and comfortable, and the bed gave me one of my best hotel sleeps. There are some signs of wear: the decor feels dated in places, there was a small hole in the floor, a couple of power plugs didn’t work, and the toilet roll holder came off very easily. Those issues didn’t take much away from the stay, though; the atmosphere and service outweighed them. I’d absolutely recommend InterContinental Melbourne for a memorable stay in a grand historic setting.
